A world-wide unity effort is underway with the formation of the Association of Catholic Therapists (ACT), according to Fr. Heyward B. Ewart, III, Ph.D.,
a former psychologist and active priest.
?The purpose is to form a unified body of mental-health therapists whose beliefs are orthodox as handed down by the apostles but who are separated into various branches of denominational expression.
The intent is to celebrate what we have in common as an honor to our Lord, who prayed that we might all be one; further, to foster high standards of practice by dependence upon the Holy Spirit, who is the only true healer of the soul,? Ewart says.
He wants to bring together Christian counselors who are either Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, or other denominations who share similar beliefs at a deep level and practice them in their ministry to others.
?This group will be an opportunity for members to share their hearts and experiences with others who can understand,? Ewart, the founder, explains. ?I, myself, have wanted this kind of fellowship for years, but I was given the idea only a little while ago.?
An advisory board has been launched with the appointment of Rev. Dr. Dan L. Edmunds, Ed.D., a respected priest and tireless youth advocate with the Polish Old Rite Catholic Church.
Ewart himself serves the Catholic Charismatic Church, Diocese of St. Anthony, and he is setting up a parish in Jacksonville, FL, where he continues a 25-year-long Christian counseling practice.
Membership is free to the first 60 applicants. The requirements are described in full at his site.
